What Do You Do with a Bad Idea?

So there are bad ideas like: "Let's climb on the roof and see how this bed sheet works as a parachute" to "Yes, my gas tank is on empty and it's 1 a.m., but I'm sure I can make the 40-mile trip home."

THOSE ideas most certainly should stay in your head, never to be given the light of anything.

However, in the creative process--whatever that looks like to you--bad ideas can often be a steppingstone to something better.

In fact, most of the work I do up front is pretty ho-hum at best and crappy crud at worst. So, the last thing you ever want to do when you're creating something is call it crappy crud and then QUIT. No, no!

Sometimes with crappy crud, you can reshape it into something decent and continue that process until it shines. And other times you may think, "This isn't working at all." In which case, I then head in a completely different direction. Either way, the ugly idea is being used to propel you to something improved.

And that, my friend, is the ultimate goal--to journey on a path of consistent (even if it's slow) improvement.

What's your latest crappy crud idea that needs reviving into something worthwhile? If you don't have one, sit down today and see what you can come up with.

Remember there are no permanently bad ideas, unless it involves jumping from high buildings or empty gas tanks.

Let's do this.
