The One Habit that May Need a Little Kick in the Pants
Share
I can't help but think of the autumn season as a time to start fresh. The whole school year getting kicked off, the subtle changing of the weather, the not-as-subtle switch from tank tops and sandals to long sleeves and boots (at least at my house).
Let's pair this time of year with one of the most important habits we can carry regularly: Gratitude. It's not just for Thanksgiving. Or when someone does something nice for us. Gratitude is something to carry with you every single day. And here's 4 easy ways to expand those Thankful genes right now:
1. Keep a Gratitude poster. No need to be fancy. Stick a sheet of cardstock on your wall in a place you pass frequently. Each time you pass by, read it. Add to it as you wish. This is certain to keep neurons firing in a positive direction.
2. Write ONE weekly/monthly thank you note. It doesn't have to be long; it only needs to be true.
3. Say thank you to that stranger who does the thankless job, day in and day out. Every time I use a public bathroom and see those hard-working cleaners in there mopping the floor, or wiping down the counter, I can't help but thank them for their work. What sort of job might you overlook that could use a heartfelt thank you now and then?
4. Don't go to bed until you acknowledge at least one think you are grateful for today, either by writing it in a journal or thinking it (or putting it on your Gratitude poster).
The science of Gratitude is no secret--thankful people are happier people. Thankful people are more content people. Thankful people are more fun to be around.
Let's do this.
(And if this speaks to you, share this with a friend. They can join in at the bottom of this blog. My weekly notes are growing and I'd love your people to be a part of it.)
