3 Steps to Making Your Creativity NEXT level
Share
If you are newer to the Creative Farm Girl Notes, you may not know my deepest mission and joy in life--and that is to spread creativity (like butter on warm sourdough) to everyone and anyone who is mildly curious.
At the start of this year, I encouraged you all to incorporate creativity in your life, not by buying a cool set of markers and paper, but first, by setting aside a regular bit of time every week to do something creative. In other words--find discipline.
Have you found it?
The "how often" of creative discipline looks different for everyone. It can be daily, weekly, or a few set times each week. But there are a few practices that are worthwhile to incorporate every time you sit down to create:
- Leave the judge in the courtroom. Creating is a time for expression--not editing or revision or making assessments of a work-in-progress. The "judging" part comes later, if it's necessary.
- Be open to experimenting. If you regularly write for each "workout," try cartooning one time. Or painting. Or dancing. It doesn't really matter what you do, just that you mix it up from your norm. This practice completely opened up my artistic side, as I started cartooning what I wrote. Eventually it evolved into my card business.
- A shorter creative session is ALWAYS better than no creative session. We all have emergencies and other things that pop up, but do try to keep in mind the significance of maintaining the discipline of creativity.
I would love to hear how your creative workouts are going, or if you are just starting, how often will you be practicing? Do you need help?
You can respond to this blog in the comments, or email me privately at hello@thecreativefarmgirl.com. I would love to start a conversation.
Let's do this.
