How Does Your Garden Grow?
Share
I love plants and flowers, but you wouldn't necessarily know it from my garden, which has a pretty even mix of pots with growing things, pots with dead things, and pots that are empty. It's every plant for itself when it comes to the Creative Farm Girl's garden. Despite all that, I'm still obsessed with planting and watching things grow, especially this time of year.
What is it about flora and fauna that drive us to play with dirt, water and fertilize green stuff, and consistently purchase flowers, herbs, and bushes to fill our spaces?
I don't believe I'm the only one who has this insatiable need/desire/obsession to enjoy green things.**
Just check out a Home Depot or plant nursery the moment the sun starts showing off its warmth in your area. Everyone is out, determined to make their gardens grow, whether it's filled with veggies and herbs, or flowers, or my personal favorites--olive trees and rosemary and lavender plants.
The Bible starts with the creation of our earth and everything on it. What does God fashion just for his people? A garden! This garden had everything humans needed, and yet they still managed to mess things up and were eventually banned from this paradise created FOR them.
And ever since, it seems as if we've been on a journey to recreate that garden experience, cultivating our own gardens to live and thrive.
Some of us do that through hiking in nature. Others do it by surrounding ourselves with beautiful indoor plants. Some buy flowers. Some use fake greenery. Some put pictures of gardens and flowers on their walls.
Gardening could be considered humans' first creative expression--taking a plot of dirt and adding seeds and seedlings. Then nurturing it with nutrients, water, and maybe some sweet talk if you understand "plant speak."
We don't know exactly what the end result will be, but it will be beautiful. and our senses will awaken, whether through sight, smell, taste, or touch.
As spring is in the air, I encourage you to create a garden if you've never done it. It doesn't have to be fancy--a few small pots work great.
It's time to get back to the garden.
In this together.
