3 Tips to Give Your Creative Projects a Breath of Fresh Air

If you have found your creativity getting a little stale lately, don't despair. Sometimes when we are able to find a rhythm in our practice, we get SO caught up in that pattern, that our creative projects lose a little life.

I imagine there are all sorts of ways to inject a little new inspiration into your creativity, but here are three simple ways to start:

  1. Set aside the mindset "This is what it must be." I think all of my cards have had last-minute adjustments for the better because I allowed space to be flexible in how I see the finished product. When I allow myself time and energy to say, "let's experiment," I open the door to something that is almost always at least a wee bit better.
  2. Leave your project alone for a day or two (at least). This allows you to come back with fresh eyes, which gives you an opportunity to be more objective. The thing that you loved so much about your project may have faded, giving you a chance to go in and make some tweaks. On the other hand, if you are still as excited and passionate about it as you were, then chances are, you did good and that is a solid confirmation.
  3. Take your project and experiment with different tools. I created a card for a friend a couple days ago and using watercolor. I thought it was sweet, but I wanted to see what would happen if I used a medium I've never tried--acrylic crayons.

As you can see, the different medium gave the dog a totally different feel--one that I saw fitting for this particular card.

If you write poetry, try rhyming if you usually don't. If you always rhyme or have it in a set cadence, mix that up. With every practice, there is a way to change the process to keep things . . . well, creative.

You can take any of these steps and incorporate them into how you dress, how you set up your home, even your cooking (don't let that one set for a day or two--unless it's Jello)--any creative practice.

Share this with a friend who could use a little more creativity in their life.

Let's do this.
